In OEM console when I try to discover a node for a 8.1.6. db on soalris and got 'Automatic discovery failed for some nodes, Discovery Failed: VD-4546: Cannot resolve the host ABCD' error message, and then I use manually configuration and got 'VTCDW-1015: Node ABCD has no configurations. If it remains unconfigured, it will not be added to the list of managed nodes.' error message. The repository is on a 8.1.7 db, and OEM is 2.2. It has no problem find node on win 2000 for a 8.1.7 db. Please help, thanks.

I had this problem before, first of all you should check that the dbsnmp agent is running on the node where the database exist, to do this type lsnrctl dbsnmp_status, if it wasnt running go to the $ORACLE_HOME/network/log and delete dbsnmpc.log and dbsnmpw.log, the run the agent by the command : lsnrctl dbsnmp_start

one other issue is that this service runs on TCP/IP meaning this node should have a valid IP address and I THINK it reuires the presence of a DNS server over the network with an entry for the machine name because IN MY CASE when the automatic discovery failed I renamed the linux machine to the same name as its IP address
so the machine IP now is 192.168.0.50 for example
and the HOSTNAME is 192.168.0.50 too
only at this moment the automatic discovery worked, I did this because I dont have a DNS server running but huh so far so good :)

hope this works with you
