Automatic Direct Trunk Select (or equivalent) from ONS set?

Here's an odd requirement that's got me stumped! Controller is a 3300 with 4 fiber-connected peripheral nodes.

For this application, I need to build one-to-one relationships between ONS/OPS lines and LS/GS trunks. For example, every time ONS extension 1350 goes off hook, I need it to connect immediately and directly to analog trunk 0500. Extension 1351 needs to select trunk 0501, 1352 needs trunk 0502, and so on.

Failed attempt #1: DTS (Direct Trunk Select) would be a solution for a multiline set as a key appearance, but can't be used for analog sets.

Failed attempt #2: Setting Feature Access Code *19 for Individual Trunk Access and then programming *190500 as hotline (Associated Directory Number) doesn't work 'cuz you can't include Feature Access Codes as Associated Directory Numbers.

Failed attempt #3: Put *190500 into speed call 3900, *190501 into speed call 3901. Now dialing 3900 or 3901 will select the appropriate trunk correctly every time, but when I put either of those numbers in as a hotline, I get re-order (fast busy).

Attempt #4 (still in progress - this one's painful): Give each analog trunk a different Interconnect number, and only allow the associated analog extension access to that interconnect, then use hotline to automatically dial 9 every time the extension is listed?!?!?

In case you're interested, here's the scenario: 32 payphones (Nortel Milennium's) on a 4000 acre campus. Currently, they're all connected directly via house cables (copper), but the copper is unmaintained ad failing fast since the fiber went in.

I need to hang the payphones off various fiber-attached peripheral nodes with either ONS or OPS, depending on distance. All te payphone trunks will then enter the campus at our main demarc and connect to LS/GS cards.

Anybody had any success doing something like this in the past?!?!!?

Thanks!

Well, first of all anything that goes out to physical "street pairs" (outside the building) I would strongly suggest putting on OPS line cards for the transient protection they afford.

Now having said that, I find myself at somewhat of a loss to help you achieve what you're trying to do. Appears you've already tried most of the things I'd have suggested.

You might want to check with Mike Sandman at Mike might be able to provide you with a switchook-activated autodialer. He also has some resources available to make custom gadgets when there's a need.

Hey there - thanks for the advice! Like you suggest, I'm already using OPS circuits for anything over 100M or 300ft. We routinely take direct lightning strikes to our lift towers, so we've got 100% solid state protection at every crossconnect (not just at the ends!!!!!), we also limit ourselves to shielded cable (grounded at every pedestal)!

While the OPS cards are great, their density sucks (and they're harder to find on eBay - sic). The ONS cards are surprisingly resilient - I used to cook $30,000 a year in line cards on the old SX200, but since switching to SX2000 per nodes on the 3300 about 3 years ago, no replacements so far - touch wood!

I thought about the dialer option, but the Milennium payphones are too smart! They create their own dialtone and present it to the user, but don't really go off-hook until they're ready to dial, waiting only a few ms before outpulsing - a dialer will probably wait at least 100ms, then add a minimum 50ms dtmf pulse - I think this will overlap the payphone's outpulsing and really shoot me in the foot.

Maybe I'll just boot the telco off the mountain and find a way to do payphones internally - anybody know if there's still any money to be made with payphones?!?!?!

I'm no expert on the 3300, but I know the 200. What about direct to ARS with tenanting, put phone X and trunk X in tenant X. i guess it depends how many tenants you can have in the 3300/2000

Or please correct me if I'm wrong I probably don't even know what I'm talking about but would it work if you make a seperate trunk group for each COR then list each phone according the the COR and route them accordingly in the ARS?

Jon,

I'll be working on this in the AM as I have to accomplish almost the same thing for another customer that I am doing an install for right now. I'll give you a call in the PM to let you know what I found.
