I would like to process my log files, pulling out stats such as job time, speed, MB processed etc. - I would like this to run automatically when each backup job completes. Has anybody done this?

I run five regular jobs on ARCserve 2000 sp3 Win2K. The ideal situation would be to use the pre/post option and pass the job number with the DOS command. But I understand that this can't be done.

have you tried the alert options yet ?? it offers - limited - possibilities to attach job logs to triggered events

regards

Thanks for your response - Yes, I use the Alert manager to notify me via Alpha pager when a job ends abnormally.

What I want to do is extract data from my log files for historical retention - possibly populating a database with it. I use this information to show data growth and it's effects on the backup window and media pool size. Among other things it's help me justify the purchase of equipment. Currently I do this sort of gathering manually and only when needed. If I could quickly chart trends I could also easily extrapolate future requirements.

I could batch process the log directory once and awhile - but I'm hoping to work out a process that runs automatically after each backup.

You could try writing a macro in something like Excel which would scan the log file for the info needed. I wrote something similar for Arcserve for NetWare logs, and whilst it took a while to get it working right, it saves a lot of time in the morning when you have 15 servers to check. -----------------------------------------------------

Thanks - I use a kex macro that extracts what I need and creates a spread sheet - I'm just getting tired of finding the right logs, copying to a new location, running the macro and saving the spread sheet. It may not seem like much but one starts to get lazy - next thing I know I'm back logged by a month or two.
