Consider this a FAQ request.

I have a back end .MDB on a server and 5-12 concurrent users on the network using a front end .MDB. I have a complicated set of routines that check if the user's front end matches the latest available, if not, refreshes the user's front end (while performing temporary resets of Access security level, etc.). These routines are mostly mashed together from Internet sources. For a few users they intermittently fail; and since the code is top-heavy anyway, I'm ready to rebuild from scratch. (The network administrator is not particularly helpful, which somewhat limits my options. At least we're all on version 2003.)

Although this must be a common issue, I can't find a good summary of methods. I do expect there are multiple solutions, and I don't expect they are simple to implement. In Access: Other Topics there is a single FAQ for a method of doubtful value. There are some fascinating threads, but they are tough to get through and they lack the closure and accessibility I crave.

I would like is a summary of the methods available, and a review of the issues that would influence my choice. And then details on the method.

An aside: keywords for this topic are a problem (MichaelRed alludes to this). The FAQ should be preloaded with keyword variants like FE, Front-End, Frontend, Deploy, Deployment, etc.

I have but I didn't pursue it. I think I was tired by the time I found it. Since you mention it, I will see how well it works.

That page also links to Danny Lesandrini's article, which was largely the basis for the work I'd done earlier. (His explanations have given me most of what understanding I do have.)

Thanks for the response.
