I have a friend with a small office of 4 Windows XP users. I set their PC's up to automatically x-copy their MyDocuments folders every Friday afternoon up to another PC into a "Backup" folder. This is working very nicely.

My friend wants to be able to copy the "Backup" folder to a CD (or DVD) once a month... automatically. I can't figure out an easy way to accomplish this. X-copy doesn't seem to work with CDs, at least not without user intervention.

Can anyone recommend an easy way to automatically copy and burn certain files/folders to a CD-R or DVD-RW?

Thanks,
-Tom

Why not use as USB Flash Drive instead?

Otherwise a Schedule Task to display a (Notepad) reminder to burn the folder to DVD/CD? Someones going to have to place the media in the drive anyway.

Something possible here, maybe?

Adding files to cd burn list using vbscript

Nero Backitup writes to virgin CDs and supports scheduled backups. It's not free but comes bundled with many drives and sysems. That's what I use to back up my home network.

I haven't used it in some time, but Roxio had the ability to format CDs which then could be used as normal drives for use with command prompt utilities such as xcopy. Likely it also has a backup utility by now. Nero only does that with CD/RW's AFAIK.

You may be able to do it if you have a UDF client installed on the pc, essentially it formats the cd and allows you to write content to it, if you use that then you can also use the scheduler to copy the files to the cd when you want to.

UDF software is quite old but you may still be able to find something somewhere, infact have a look here

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.
