Hi. I am troubleshooting a problem I'm having with an application that runs on our Netware 4.11 server. The application runs locally on a Windows 2000 PC and occasionally throws Dr. Watson errors. Tech support for the application forgot I was using Novell and suggested I do the following on my Microsoft server:

regedt32
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Services
lanmanserver
parameters
"What is the AutoDisconnect entry set to?"

When I reminded him I am running Netware, he wanted to know if Netware has a similar setting to this AutoDisconnect ~ does anyone know if it does?

Thanks!

I would suggest looking for this setting on your desktop - usually it is the Novell Client that has to be tweaked rather than the server itself. -----------------------------------------------------

Hi, Angela.

I assume from the question that the MS techie concluded the workstation is losing its network connection which is causing the crash.

This would usually be the result of a hardware or network problem.

Under Novell, the server will auto-disconnect a non-responsive workstation based on the response, or lack of, to watchdog packets. The delay involved is determined by three parameters on the server:

Delay before first watchdog packet : default 4 min 56.6 secs

Delay between watchdog packets : default 59.3 secs

Number of watchdogs packets : default 10.

If your server is running these defaults that would mean about 15 minutes before the workstation is disconnected.

To check on these settings on your server, at the console
prompt type SET. In the resulting list of categories, #1 is communications options. It will list the various options and show you the current settings for each.

Best regards
Jock
