I'm only a novice when it comes to Illustrator as I use AutoCadd mostly. One question; is there a way to draw lines by defining the coordinates as you do in Cadd. Example: L (enter) 18.122,12.313 (enter) 14.285, 95.702 (enter) and voila I have a line starting and stopping at these coord's! Similarly I can create circles, rectangles, etc. in this manner. Alternately I've been creating objects in Cadd and importing and/or cutting/pasting them into Illustrator.

If there is a way I'd greatly appreciate a step by step!

Thanks in advance

Cheers

This is how I would do it (there may be a better way). Begin by using the line tool and just draw a line anywhere on your page. Next choose the Direct Selection tool (the white arrow) and select just one of the anchor points on either end of the line. Now make sure the Transformation palette is visible (shift+F8) and in there you will see the x and y co-ordinates of that anchor point. Change them to were you want it to be (mm for millimeters, px for pixels etc). Then choose the anchor point on the other end of the line and set the co-ordinates for that one. Sorted.
Hope you could follow this OK.

Thanks dimoj for the advice!

Just to further understand, can I then stretch or modify the other point (end) with the x/y coords?

Yes, set the co-ordinates of one end of the line then select the other end and do the same, just make sure you have only the anchor point you want to change selected (it will be a solid black square while the other point will be hollow). Tip: if you are having trouble selecting the anchor points you can drag a rectangle around the end of the line with the Direct Selection Tool (A) and that will select the point.

Thanks dimoj

Tried it and it wored perfectly...thanks again!
