AutoCAD Layers

I am trying to delete an unused layer. However, I cannot delete the layer due to the fact that it is referenced. I have checked the xref manager which shows nothing is x-referenced. I have moved all the objects into another layer, but still cannot delete this layer.
1. How do I find out what this layer contains?
2. How do remove any links to this layer to enable the layer to be purged?

You can delete layers using the express tools.
From the menu select-
-Express
-Layers
-Layer Delete

This is dependent on having the express tools loaded.

Thanks. It works a treat, so much easier now to tidy a drawing up.
