HELP!!! What am I doing wrong. I am using AutoCAD 2000i on Windows XP Professional. As I am working on a drawing, the file size rapidly grows enormous. Today I tried to re-open a file I had just closed and I received an out of memory error. I checked and the DWG file was 80MB. Once I got it open I WBlocked the objects, deleted the original DWG file and renamed the new block.dwg to the original file name. The file was then only 185kb. Where did the 80MB of fill come from? What am I doing wrong?

I have occasionally found an errant entity in the drawing that causes huge chunks of data to be eaten up. You may try to quadrant out the drawing, and remove entities, save the drawing and compare sizes. You can narrow down the item this way. I found a block of a small fitting once (about 20 lines) but replacing it reduced the dwg file by 5 MB. My two cents...

Thank you for your input, but I think that I found the problem. When I have my drawing open, I would receive an email. I would follow the link which would take me to a web site. I believe that it is somehow putting the cookies into my open drawing file. Since I have been closing my drawings before I read any email or surf the web, my drawings have not been growing anymore. Thanks again for the input.

I have a drawing that got very large when I cut and paste from one layout to another. I wblock a layout for a testing. Went into the new block/drawing erased elements one by one saved and until I had nothing left in the drawing. The empty file is still 8mb. I even purged, audited the drawing and still 8mb.

Any suggestion?
