Looking for a a discussion on this. We are looking at running AutoCAD 2010 from a terminal server environment. I am curious what kind of performance users would expect? Any recommendations.

Ive always advised against this as most servers although they have great cpu, memory and disk bandwith the graphics gpu simply isnt good enough.

Especaly when it would be handling multiple session in TS

I haven't dealt with engineering/CAD programs in awhile but I agree with the above statements. You didn't indicate as to how many Autocad users would be accessing this server and whether they are in far flung locations where connectivity would be spotty. Besides I am not sure if Autodesk would support any TS based configuration (then again like I said it's been awhile since I have had to support it)

The internet bandwidth is not much of a concern as the users are currently RDPing to their in office desktops when they want to continue to work.
Right now this is all theory. As I am being told, there are generally 2 or 3 engineers doing this at any given time.
Without a doubt, we would need to put in a higher performance graphics card to get useable results.
Unfortunately,I do not know at this time which version of AutoCAD we are referring to. For now I will assume AutoCAD 2010 standard.
Ultimately the issue we are trying to prevent is that there are currently multiple holes in the firewall and all computers have static IP addressing. From a security standpoint, having so many holes in the firewall is a cause for concern.
Is there a similar product to Remote Web Workplace that could get the job done? Allowing me to forward one port, they authenticate, then choose a computer to connect to (Remote Web Workplace is only on SBS servers and this client is running server standard).

Terminal Server Gateway uses only port 443 (with certificate) through the firewall, then port 3389 once within the LAN. Also can remote web via the TSG with certificate.
