I had a working system with autocad 2000 and windows 98 and a networked HP8000N printer w/PCL6. When I upgraded to W2k it can no longer find the printer.

The printer is installed as a system printer and works with other applications.

When you attempt to plot you get a "problem with... driver etc." message. When you try plotter wizard it crashes the wizard or sometimes gets a memory allocation error.

I have tried reinstalling the printer driver, reinstalling autocad 2k. Even tried doing a clean install of W2k and autocad 2k on a new machine and get the same results.

There is a hint in an error message about the printer name being longer than 31 characters. Attempted to shorten the name of the printer, share printer name even the driver name with no luck.

Anyone else made this combination work?

I am new to this site, but I am listed at allexperts.com under another name (Ben Franzus).
If you send me a copy of the printer drivers, I will attempt to install a phantom printer on my setup, Networked W2K and Acad2000. Then I can try and recreate the problem. I won't make any promises, but I'll try. You can zip them and send them to: bfranzus@syclone.net

Hi,
You may be in need of the AutoCAD 2000 plotting patch. Here is a link to it.

ftp://adeskftp.autodesk.com/prodsupp/autocad2000/patches/plotupdate.exe

I hope this helps.

You imply that you did an inplace upgrade of your OS from W98 to W2k.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but in my experience, a new install is always better than an upgrade, especially when you are talking about operating systems.

I am also having a similar problem. I recently upgraded my machine to windows XP from 98 and now when I try to plot to my HP430 plotter I get a memory allocation error. I have downloaded the windows XP drivers for this plotter from HP but am still having the same problem.

Can anybody help. PLEASE!!!
