Does anyone have an easy way to transfer aspects of a drawing from one drawing to another while keeping the original aspects on the original layer? In older versions I simply made a copy of the original items in the same location and then under properties, I chose previous and set them to a different layer. In 2000 I can't use the previous command. Thanks for the help.

YOU CAN USE "P" PREVIOUS, tRY USING TRASH "2T" TO BLOCK THE ITEMS YOU WANT TO TRANSFER TO THE OTHER DRAWING, THEN "FT" AND THE NAME YOU GAVE THE ITEMS.
YOU CAN USE THIS FOR
To specify a layer during import
Start the Import command.
In the Import options dialog box, review the target layer for each layer (sometimes called a schema, level, or file) in the incoming file.
To change a layer, click in the Drawing Layer field for the layer you want to change.
To import objects to an existing layer in the drawing, click the down arrow and select the layer.
To import objects to a new layer, click the (...) button. In the Layer Mapping dialog, click Create On New Layer and enter a layer name. Then click OK to close the Layer Mapping dialog.
To import objects to a layer whose name is specified in data stored on the imported objects, click the (...) button. In the Layer Mapping dialog, click Use Data Field For Layer Name and select the data field to use. Then click OK to close the Layer Mapping dialog.
During import, AutoCAD Map will read the specified data value for each object. If the data value stored on the object specifies a layer that already exists, the object will be imported to that layer. If the data value stored on the object specifies a layer that does not exist, the layer will be created, and the object will be imported to the new layer. If an object does not have a data value attached, the object will be imported to Layer 0.

To import objects to a layer with the same name as the input layer, right click on Drawing Layer column heading in the table and select Use Input Layer Names.
During import, if a drawing layer with this name already exists, objects are copied to that layer. Otherwise, a new layer is created and objects are copied to the new layer.
