AutoAnswer with Direct Connect?

I have an external modem, connected with a serial cable, using Procomm...I can give the modem commands successfully, Like ATA, ATZ, etc...so the modem works

But all the "Incoming Call Handling" options are grayed out in Procomm. According to the support web site, it is because my modem is a direct connect...

Does this mean I will not be able to auto answer calls? What is the command to auto-answer in command mode?

I know in ASPECT I can use the "set modem autoanswer PW" to make it autoanswer, but will this work with a direct connect?

Any help appreciated!
(Sorry for all the questions)

In the Quick Select Line at the bottom of the Procomm window, does the third box over say direct connect or is your modem listed? If it says direct connect, click in this box and change to your modem.

Yes, it says direct connect - com 1

My only other choices are:

direct connect - none
direct connect - com1
direct connect - com2
direct connect - com3
direct connect - com4

That's the problem - I don't have an internal modem, so it doesn't "see" a modem....my external modem is on com 1, so that is selected, and the commands successfully go to the modem, but not sure if that limits me in any way...

If you go into the Modems applet in Control Panel, does your modem show up there? If so, delete the PW5.PRM from your Procomm directory, run Procomm (this will create a new parameter file and ask you to re-enter some settings), and see if your modem shows up in Procomm then.

Yes, it shows up as Hayes 9600....but under the "Attached to" column, it says "not functional"

I'm assuming because its a serial connection?

It weird because the modem DOES work....for instance if I type ATV1, I get the modem response profile/settings...etc...

But I'll try what you said, and let you know...

Thanks

I removed that file, and restarted procomm...no matter what I do I cannot seem to get that Hayes modem to show up in the Procomm config box, where you're supposed to select your modem....

Any idea?

Is your modem truly a Hayes 9600, or some other model that was installed as a Hayes 9600? If you have a driver disk for the modem, try deleting the modem then add it back.
