We have quite a few mobile scanners. Currently when a change to the app occurs, I have to round up all the devices and re-deploy the new version to each one. I would like to have the app update itself upon detecting a newer version. Would someone be able to point me in the right direction or assist me in accomplishing this?

Note that these devices are connected up to a wireless network so they can check a location on a server.

1) Build something. There are a lot of different ways you can handle this. As a step-by-step I've not seen one, the general concept would be a separate updater program that is call if a new version is detected.

2) Google search from something like "Windows Mobile program updater" or something along those lines. There are a few different groups creating this type of program. You will just need to read up on them and find out which can/will work for you.

Assuming that you are using Windows Pocket PC or CE devices checkout a program called Spb AirSetup that does exactly what you want. I used it a few years ago to update handheld devices over GPRS. It should work extremely well over a wifi connection.
