I just installed Illustrator and am trying to learn how to use it. I have a bmp image that I want to convert to vector. The help files tell me to select Auto Trace from the menu. They even show me what the icon should look like. Unfortunately, I can't find the icon! I'm sure that I'm overlooking something pretty simple here, but I can't figure out what. Could someone please help me with this?

Thanks in advance for your time and attention!

The Autotrace tool is located under the Blend tool. Click and hold the Blend tool and the Autotrace tool will shoot out.

Don't get your hopes up, though, the Autotrace tool is a joke, it does not work worth a darn. In CS2 it's supposed to be improved, so unless you have CS2, don't even try.

The best way to get vectors from a bitmap, is to re-draw with the pen tool. The next best way (although unsatisfactory if you need top quality) is to use an application like Adobe Streamline.
