Hi, I am actually new to photoshop but before I asked I have made a lot of search in the Internet and in this forum. Maybe, because I am a newbie, I could not search in the right way so I couln't find any soluntion.

Here is my objective. I have a layer on top which contains a text and a background layer at the bottom which contains a picture having a varying range of color. I want to make the text's color varying according to the background colors. I mean that the text must have changing color not a static (solid) color and it must be such a color that it must be considerably differ from background. We can see this kind of effects on newspapers or magazines. I think there is an easy way of this but I don't know how.

Have you any ideas? Thanks...

This may depend on the colours you're using, but start by trying different blending modes (in the layers palette, select the text layer and change "Normal" to something else).

If that doesn't work, the only simple technique that comes to mind is this:

1: Select the layer that contains the type
2: Go to Layer > Type > Create Work Path
3: Hide the text layer (you'll still see a gray outline, but that's ok)
4: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Invert.
5: Make sure "Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask" is turned off, then click ok.

You can also experiment with other adjustment layers other than invert, such as curves or hue/saturation. The main problem with this technique, however, is that if the text needs to be edited, you have to start again, so I wouldn't be suprised if there was a more versatile technique out there. If only you could use the type tool to create an editable vector mask...

In the transparency palette, set the text box to "difference"
Maybe that'll give you what you want
