Okay, here is a good one for you tech guys. I have a Servgate M30 device that severely misbehaves when it is not shutdown properly. I live in a Two-Thirds World country where the power goes off constantly. So when the power goes off and the UPS shuts down the M30 device is abruptly turned off and the troubles begin.
I have a Belkin 1500 UPS connected to the device and its software has the ability to run a program before the OS shutsdown. I can use Hyperterminal to issue a shutdown command. But what I need to know is how can I automate hyperterminal (or any other telnet software) to issue this command when I'm not around?
The people at Servgate don't think this can be done but I refuse to believe that a computer cannot automate a software process on a remote device. If I can execute pearl scripts on a server 12000 miles from my home then I should be able to shutdown a device 5 feet from my server!
Thanks in advance for you thinking on this problem.
