Hi there,

We are having alot of problems within our workplace whereby people are opening a workbook that we all access and then disappearing from their desk - and therefore stopping anyone else accessing (being able to write to) the workbook.

Is there any code i can put in the workbook that if there has been no activity within the workbook, it will save it as is, then close the workbook?

many thanks for any help,
Neil

For future reference, VBA-specific questions should be posted to forum707.

But I'll go ahead and tell you that this is not the way you want to go. Any such macro would have to constantly run in the background and would eat up system resources and probably cause Excel to run quite slowly.

Have you considered setting the workbook to "Shared" so that multiple users can have it open at the same time? Have a look at Tools > Share Workbook.

But a word of caution about doing that: I have heard reports that shared workbooks used by many people have a tendency to become corrupted.

thanks for the reply,

that option is greyed out? Any idea's why?

thanks,
Neil

Do you have any lists in the workbook? (From Data > List)?

You can't use those in a shared workbook, and if there are any present it will cause the Share Workbook option to be grayed out.
