Is there any way to have Windows 2003 perform auto power up and shutdown? I know it should not be a problem with auto shutdown, but how about auto power up again?

My understanding is that we would need something extra such as the UPS and the utility that comes with the UPS to enable this sort of setup. But I am not sure of the precise requirements.

Could anyone advise?

Thank you.

Vairous manufacturers have some hardware that can do it. TopTools has a card that comes to mind and I know Compaq had one too.

The card is added to the server and has the ability to give remote connectivity even before the OS is loaded. If I recall correctly it has a wake on lan type feature for powered down machines.

Are you just looking to be able to remotely reboot or do you really need to be able to shutdown and then power up?

Actually the requirement is to do schedule auto power up and schedule shutdown. Shutdown should not pose much problem as it should be able to use some kind of script or bat file. The concern is more with the schedule power on. I think some sort of additonal hardware/option card probably is needed. The server concern is the IBM x225.

A remote management card.

For IBM, it's appropriately called an ASMA [pronounced like asthma] card.

Thanks. I have also looked into the RSA (remote Supervisor Adaptor), and it has function for schedule power on, but the setting is not permanant.
