auto populate fields with LOV

I have a LOV with ssn, last, first, middle. Normally the user would hit the LOV key and select an SSN and the LOV would populate the ssn, last, first, middle. But I want the user to be able to enter a series of ssn's without seeing the LOV unless they enter an invalid ssn. Now even though the lov is designed to return the values, if the user just enters the ssn and moves on the last, first and middle fields are not populated. How can I have the LOV auto populate the last, first, middle fields automatically when it is not actually called up by the user?

Try to change Automatic Select LOV property to true.

I tried that, as best I can tell, it only tells the LOV to autoselect the value once the user has drilled down to one row in the lov. It doesnt seem to have anything to do with autoselecting the other columns.

In my scenario the LOV select box will never appear unless the user enters an invalid ssn...

I had to go into the field and select VALIDATE FROM LIST = Y. This makes the form act like I wanted it to..
