How do I add an auto number field to a word document? I want to number each copy of the same survey and place that number on each page. Thanks!

Caryisms,

You can possibly get someone with VBA Word experience to help you out with a routine that would: a) automatically increment a filename (e.g. name_####) and b) place that filename in the header of each page, and c) save the files under their separate filenames.

Failing to get someone to write a VBA routine for you, it's still possible to manually do the above. It would mean using: 1) View – Header and Footer, and then 2) Insert – AutoText – Filename.

But of course a VBA routine would be nice - obviously MUCH quicker.

May I be BLUNT as to your BEST "NEXT MOVE"... Let everyone know that you are NOW aware of the "accepted practice" of "showing proper thanks and recognition" for the time it takes for contributors to this Forum to develop solutions for those in need of help.

This method of showing appreciation involves simply clicking on the "Click here to mark this post as a helpful or expert post!" - located in the lower-left-corner of the contributor's posting. Doing this is what results in those "STARS" you have probably noticed. These "STARS" are the ONLY form of "recognition". No one at Tek-Tips receives ANY form of "payment" - except for the "STARS".

I make this suggestion because it appears VERY clear from your "Tek-Tips profile" that you've NOT yet become aware of this "accepted practice". Don't feel bad... Most NEW Tek-Tips users are not aware of this. However, as you've been a member for awhile, I thought you'd appreciate my pointing this out to you.

PLEASE...Do NOT start with a star for my posting. I would suggest that you go back to your earlier postings, and award STARS to the ones who've helped you out in the past.

You can EASILY locate your postings - by simply clicking on the red-check-mark at the top of the Tek-Tips page. This will list the postings by your check-marks - instead of the normal chronological order.

Hope this helps you get a VBA solution for your current task. :)

Again, NO star, please, for my posting - I want to EARN them in the "normal" manner. Thanks.

Regards, ...Dale Watson dwatson@bsi.gov.mb.ca
