Hi All,
i need to setup a couple of pc's running Vista at the school i work for. They need to have auto login and once logged in i want them to go to Kiosk mode to a web site. I don't want the kids to be able to go any where else on the pc or to any other site other than the main site and any links i put on that site. those links will be to movies, picture and or games stored on our server. Anybody know of a good solution i could use to do this? Can i do this?
Thanks in advance

Regards
Max
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Are these on a domain? If so you can lock them down using a loopback group policy (more info on locking the gui down via group policy and loopback policies are easily googled).
Otherwise you can do this with local policies using GPEDIT.msc on the machine itself. Not available if you are running vista home though . . .

To restict the access to other internet sites you can add a bogus proxy server into the ie settings that does not exist then add the sites you want to allow to the proxy exceptions, lock it down of course though . . .

There is apparently no tweak UI for vista yet that you would normally set up auto log in with under XP but there is another way instead I found as the top result in google for 'vista auto login' . . .

Click on the Start button and type in ‘netplwiz‘. This will open the Advanced User Accounts menu
In the Users tab, highlight the account you want to login to Vista automatically with, and then ‘must enter a username and password to use this computer’
Click on ‘Apply’. A new window will now popup asking you to enter the password of the account you’ve just highlighted. Do this, and then click ‘Ok’
Click ‘Ok’ on the Advanced User Accounts menu to finish

You can autologon a particular [limited] user account the same way as XP--> Start, control userpasswords2, enter. Single click to choose the account you want, then uncheck the 'users must enter a username....' option.

Then in that user's startup folder, add a shortcut to: [ignore]"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -k [/ignore]

Not sure if this works with Vista as have only used with XP.
Might want to take a look at MS's own app called 'steady state'... will allow you to 'screw' everything down just as you want.

I used to have a handle on life... but it broke. Cpt. Red Bull
