Auto install of client software

We have Coporate v9 installed. We've just built a new server as the old one was getting errors and having migrated those users that are logged in we have found lots of machines that are currently unused thus haven't been migrated and can't with out turning the machine on first!

Also, we re-image the machines fairly often thus making them needing the client software re-installed also!

Is there a way to make Symantec AV 9 Coporate Edition auto install to any new machine that it sees? Or something along those lines, with out us having to get the computer name etc?

If you're using login scripts, you can have any machine that logs in get the installation. This can be tricky if you've got 2k/XP clients though, because you need local admin rights. Try this:

There's no way to do it other than a login script than I know of.

I looked into using login scripts as suggested by darksasami (thanks!) but it didn't seem to work. This wasn't really what I was looking for though.

I did some further digging and discovered that it is possible to do this with SAV CE v9 through Group Policy.

Do a manual install and find the GRC.DAT file that gets created. This file contains the settings you selected when doing the manual install so make sure you install it as you want others to be installed!!

Set up the msi package to install as normal in Group Policy, and then copy the GRC.DAT file created earlier into the same folder as the msi. It will then use this for the settings!!

Seems to work, but if I find anything else out I'l lupdate this thread!
