I have an IPO SE R9.1 SP6 with 9608 sets. Whenever a user is in the call log or contact list and they lift their handset the phone automatically calls whichever user is highlighted. Does anyone know if there is any way at all to disable this feature? It is driving a customer of ours nuts. I asked Avaya and the engineer said that he did not see a way to disable it but I didn't feel like he was too confident so thought I would ask here too in case anyone else has ever ran into it.

No you can't, but for the other 99% of users it's extremely usefull, I've never had anyone complain. Why stop while looking at a user and then go off hook if it's not the one you want? Makes no sense. Train them to press the Phone/Home button if they are just searching with no intent to call :)

Years before lifting the handset and putting it down again. On your smartphone you will not dial from call log and quit the call to leave the screen...

Sticky tape on the switch hook.
Superglue a piece of plastic over the switchhook.

Now experiencing escalation fatigue.

I offered the sticky tape option to the customer but they weren't satisfied.

They never are. It's your fault a handset goes off hook when the handpiece is lifted.

Give them a headset, remove the handpiece and make it an off hook station.

Now experiencing escalation fatigue.

This is where training comes in - during training you explain this happens and how for it not to happen!!

If you disable it (if that were possible), the next question would be from other users saying "when I select an option in my call log/contacts, why can't I just lift the handset to call them any more?".

So teach them to just press the 'Phone' button if they want to exit the call log/contacts.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.
