Hello All,

I have a Cisco 350 AP (ver 11.23T software)BSS cell which I use for testing purposes. I've noticed that when I take a wireless client further away from the AP, as the quality of the signal degrades, the data rate remains on 11mb/s and does not automatically step down. I will walk right out of the cell range without the data rate adjusting. I have tried standing for 10 minutes at the furthest point of the Cell where connectivity still exists, however the signal quality is poor, in the event that its a timing issue, however the rate did not change. I've also attempted disabling the re-enabling the wireless adapter at the further point in the cell, however the client still connects at 11mb/s though the signal quality is poor. I suspect it is an Access Point issue, however when viewing the harware settings of the wireless interface, it shows all data rates enabled. I've tested this with two different models of wireless cards, the first being a Cisco 350 PCMCIA adapter, the second a Socket wireless card for a Compaq IPAQ handheld.

Any help on this matter is appreciated.

Hi

I guess you're after the nice model with different throughput on different distances. This is however only a theoretical model and it doesn't seem to work in reality. I did some testing with our 350s and found that it would operate with 11 Mbps all the way. Then the signal would just disappear. I could see it working it's way through the different throughputs but it wouldn't get a signal. I tried a lot of different settings but it was all the same.

I've later attended the Cisco course on the AP350 and the teacher comfirmed that the nice model was only theoretical and that you might be able to get it to work in ideal conditions.

If you want to adjust the settings yourself you go in under the Radio Port Hardware and specify which throughputs you wan't the AP to work with.

Yes- This option will only allow unicast traffic i.e. data
No- This option will disable the speed
Basic- This option will allow both unicast and multicast traffic. Multicast is used to associate and authenticate with the AP.
