I recently installed a merlin system in our office.
here's my dilema.

I want the phone to ring 4 times before the auto attendant picks up.
which it's doing.

And I want extensions to ring x times before the mailbox picks up.
However this isn't what's happening.
extensions will ring something like 8 times or so before voicemail picks up.

I've checked my delayed answer settings and it's set to delayed answer on auto attendant. but it seems this setting also puts voicemail on delayed answer.

has anyone come accross this before? is there a solution?
i'm very aggravated by this phone system and i'm about to toss it out the window and i'm close to jumping out after it with a flying elbow.

First, set the voice mail ports back to immediate answer, instead of delayed answer. This will make calls transferred to extensions ring the number of rings you specify in the Cover Delay - Group for the extensions.

To have your lines answered by the auto attendant after a delay, you need to make the lines ring "somewhere else" and then cover to voice mail, defining the covering mailbox as the auto attendant.

If your lines are in pools (you dial 9 on a SA button for outbound calls), you assign the lines to an unused calling group, and set that group to overflow to the voice mail calling group after a number of seconds. In voice mail, you create a mailbox whose extension number matches the calling group, and assign it to the auto attendant through class of service or a simple assignment depending on which voice mail you are using.

If the lines are not in pools, you can assign them to an unused extension, give them delayed ring, make that extension the principal user of the lines, and cover it to voice mail. Again, make the mailbox point to the auto attendant.

Perhaps you need to find a local installer/programmer before you do harm to yourself!

OK thanks for the info.
did what you said.

I have voicemail assigned to group 770
made group 771 have the line pools. it overflows to group 770.

the phone rings 4 times and then auto attendant picks up. this is perfect.

however when you call in and dial a direct extension.
the outside caller hears 7 rings. while the extension rings 5 times.
there is a delay somewhere of 2 rings before the extension rings. anyone

There is not a one to one relationship with outside rings, and rings on the PBX connected phone. The timers are different. You can decrease the group cover delay cover delay extension by extension to shorten if you like.

Where exactly is that located?
If you wouldn't mind a simple.
sys programing -> something -> something -> here
would be appreciated.

Look under System Programming > Start (or Exit) > Extensions > More > More > Cover Delay > Group > Extension Number > Enter

Now you see the current setting, backspace it out, put in the desired setting,

> Enter

Tommy thanks that helped. i got it down to 5 rings before voicemail picks up.

However i'm still getting a delay of 2 rings. before the extension i'm dialing begins to ring.
there is still a delay and i need to get rid of that delay.

The extension needs to start ringing in sync when an outside caller dials that extension from the auto attendant.

I can't have that. Anyone have an idea of how to get rid of that 2 ring delay?

It sounds that you have the SA buttons set for Delay ring. Press Inspect, and then punch each of the SA buttons, make sure each of them say -I at the end of them, if they say -D that means that they are set for delay ringing. In that case, what you would do, is press Feature 00, Press the SA button, and dial *37, and then press home.

Hope that helps
