I am running a web site on a w2k server with iis 5 and server ext 2002. I have a subnet setup (intranet) in IIS with anonymous access turned off, basic authentication and integrated windows authentication activated. I have set the security of the w2k folder with the files to allow access by a specific domain group. I was expecting that when accessing the site via a browser the user would be presented with an authentication screen to login. What am I missing in the mix?

Thanks in advance for you help.

If the user is not getting user/password dialog box then they probably have the 'User Authentication' set to 'Automatically allow logon in Intranet zones' checked off under the security policies in IE.
For IE 6.0 Check:
Internet Options>Security>Custom Level>User Authentication (the last option)

InternetCookies, thanks for the help. You helped me figure out another problem I had.

I had a web site that if I connected to with it would log me in, but if I used (the FQDN) it would pop up a box.

All I had to do was add server_name.domain.com to the trusted sites and things worked out peachy.
