Authenticate twice to edit MS Docs

When a user is in a sharepoint site, and opens any Microsoft document for edit - including downloading an Infopath form - they are required to re-enter login credentials, they should not have to. I have tried:

1. Ensuring effected users on same AD as web and SQL server.
2. Enable basic auth from workstation (SSL is required as well)
3. Ensuring full permissions on folder, document library, and item level security
4. Setting - "use integrated windows authentication" - from IE advanced options

You probably need a 3rd party single signon installed and configured.

-Laughter works miracles.

I can not imagine Sharepoint and Office 2003 products would be configured so that they would need third party authentication.

I am in the process of duplicating production in a test environment - I guess I will figure it out there.

Enter the site into the "Trusted sites" in Internet explorer. This usually solves those authentication problems.

Thanks!

Patrick

I should have mentioned I have the site as trusted. Plus - this is ONLY when opening any MS document for EDIT - ie - downloading an Infopath form.

One other thing I am looking into is WebDAV - does that have anything to do with it?

What was the best thing BEFORE sliced bread?

Yes, I have a couple hundred users, workstations are kept up to date from desktop support department. There are no errors when accessing documents, just the annoying login dialog box for any Microsoft excel, word, infopath, ppt, etc. that is opened for edit.

What was the best thing BEFORE sliced bread?

I'm only just starting to look at SharePoint (MOSS 2007), but we can open Word docs for edit without being prompted for authentication (this is on a PC with Office XP installed plus Project 2003, but the docs are Word docs).

Not sure what version of SharePoint you're using, but could it be this?

The sharepoint client is for older office versions, since I am using Office 2003, with sharepoint 2003 - the users should not be having any authentication issues.

As the sharepoint admin, with local admin and server admin rights, running office 2003, and all the above issues set (trusted site in IE, basic auth turned on, use integrated windows authentication, full control at all levels of document, site collection administrator, same domain user as the sharepoint site is on, etc, etc. I can not log in to sharepoint and open a document, infopath form, excel, any MS product for editing without re-entering my credentials - so I know the users have no chance.

It is increasingly strange to me that I have such an isolated case - anyone got Bill's number?
