We use Ms Exchange 2003 as our e-mail hub.

When starting PINE on AIX, PINE will query the Exchange server and force the user to logon to the domain before allowing access to use Exchange (access folders, send mail, etc.)

The user receives this prompt from PINE:
HOST: exchange USER: jdoe@somewhere.com ENTER PASSWORD:

Is it possible to setup sendmail to do the same type of query of the Exchange server to verify the user has an e-mail account on the Exchange server or at least a valid domain account?

Sendmail is an MTA not a mail client like Pine. If sendmail tries to deliver mail to an account on an Exchange server and there is no valid account on that Exchange server the message cannot be delivered. More than likely it will be bounced.
