My IT are thinking of junking IE on our network, due to the recent security problems.
This is fine, apart from the fact I've built a few sites that are IE specific. I can work round most of them, but I need to know if IIS will still receive the AUTH_USER or LOGON_USER server variables if a different browser is used. I'm assuming yes, as it's a server variable, but I've given up assuming anything these days!!

Cheers

Your assumption is correct. And you are a wise man to use a different browser.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Ok, I'm playing with this at home. I've got IIS6 up and running & it shows all my server variables no probs in ie6.
I've downloaded Opera & all I get whenever I try to access is Internal Communication Error
and it goes no further.
When I try it on Firefox I get the password box that no matter how I enter my password fails to go away unless I click cancel and then I'm not authorized!
Where am I going wrong? What settings do I need in these browsers to make my LOGON_USER work without any interaction from the user?
They are both the latest versions, downloaded from the relevant home page.

Many browsers will not pass on certain environment variables. Maybe you'll have to rethink your logon script.

That was the point of my post! Am I able to get Opera/Firefox/Whatever to work so that IIS will be able to fill the LOGON_USER server variable. If so, how? The testing I've done at home hasn't worked, but then I'm no network guru.
If not, I am going to have to look at implementing a seperate logon routine for my different applications, which I'd rather not do!

Cheers

This: Internal Communication Error should be an indicator. I suspect that there's a problem with your particular configuration or with your asp script. It's obvious that that script is not passing the variables, or maybe it can't even find them. Most browsers will pass the AUTH_USER and LOGON_USER variables without a problem, provided that they are accessable to the script.
