I had a similar problem with an used 7960G phone (company attempt at saving a few bucks). I recently upgraded my call manager to 7.1.5 and for the most part all the phone updated successfully with the new firmware, however I had a 7960G that displayed the auth failed message as you mentioned. There are 2 fixes to address this, one fix is setting up a TFTP server and obtaining a firmware from Cisco's website (assuming you have a phone under the contract, yes its silly but now you need to put a phone on the smart net to be able to download firmware code) you put the firmware on the TFTP server, point the phone to an alternate TFTP server (address of your server) and in theory it will "upgrade" after its taking the step upgrade, change the phones TFTP server from the settings back to your call manager and it should upgrade to the current version offered by your call manager...
option 2 (this is what I used) the cheaters method, fired up my old call manager server and pointed the phones tftp to that server address, it pulled down the firmware which was newer on my old call manager and after that I was able to point it back to the new call manager and pull down the current firmware from cucm 7.1.5su6...
I have tried option 1 in the past, and I remember it was a huge pain and time consuming, the option 2 probably isnt available for everyone but since I still have my old call manager and its very fast and easy, this server might just stick around for another year or 2
hello,
I thank you very much for your response, but i seem not be able to try the two options , if i don't need the configuration can i do a reset factory for the phones to return to the old firmware or it will be a problem?
You can use CCA to place the 8.5(2) firmware files on your UC520 for your affected phones. Once the phone is updated to 8.5.2, they will support the latest update to the version included with the UC520.
I tried to upload the firmware 8.5(2) on UC520 for the affected phones but after the update they don't support the firmware version 9-1-1SRS1 and they shows registering all the time
