Is there a way to automate the creation and maintenance of distribution list?
Or better yet use LDAP to sync them with Active Directory?

I don't think there's a quick or easy way to build distribution lists, though I could be wrong. Maybe a group voice mailbox that forwards to the email address of the distribution list could work.

We have tried that and it works great.

Only problem is the dist list in AD has an option that says something like
only allow mail from authorized users.
If this is set the mail will not be delivered. It has to be turned off.
We have restricted list that only certain people can send to.
Turning this off allows anyone to send to the list.

Still looking for a solution.

Thanks for your reply

Wouldn't your AAM have an account you can define to as "From" when sending to Exchange and you can add that to the list of accepted senders?

Are you stuck because you think AAM can only send as 'anonymous' and you've got to open the flood gates to that DL to let AAM pass messages?

Haven't looked explicitly, but I've done some AAM with full blown Exchange integration in the backend, and there is certainly an account it uses to do all that stuff, so I would expect that functionality to be there for you at the lesser level of just "forward vm to email

It uses the impersonation account so that it will see the users account if you are really using Exch as the message store.

If not then your only option is by hand, Provision or a custom application to sync the ELA's with LDAP.
