I was wondering if anyone knew how to set a computer that is powered down, to automatically turn on at a specified time.

Thanks

I never turn mine off to test this but under MacOS 9.1 it uses the Energy saver control panel Schedule tab Start up the Computer I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Is there any harm in using a timer plug in the socket, These are quite useful for turning radios and lamps on I dont know about computers though!!

Turning on is fine if the Mac automatically boots when power is restored (also determined the energy saver control panel). The problem is shutting down with a timer-switched outlet... that's a no-no.
