Is there a way to track unsuccessful log in attempts and other information usually found in an audit/security log?

I want to be able to have an audit logs which mimics NT 4.0's audit log for 'APPLICATION, SECURITY, AND SYSTEM'. I looked into the program 'LogWatch' and it seems to not do the job but I could be wrong.

Any help at all is very much appreciated and I assure you will be useful.

Thanks in advance!

You can configure your syslog configuration file.
or You can set acct on process for audit your system.
Good Luck

I am not too skilled with Linux yet. Can you please give me an example of how to:

1. configure the syslog configuration file.
2. set acct on process for audit your system.

Thank you so much. I have never heard of these terms before you mentioned them. Thanks for your time.
