The former IT guy deleted any possibility of having audio files play on Win98 workstations. He's gone, the powers that be have decided that at this point, we don't need a tech at this moment in time and they've added it to my responsibilities.
My question is: Is there an easy way of activating the audio capabilities? I tried a copy of 98 (mine from home) but the install didn't happen. I reinstalled the multimedia part but no difference.

Sounds like a) Theres no sound card actually in the computer, or b) The sound drivers aren't installed.

Take a look inside your computer and see if there is a sound card. Alternatively, look round the back for at least three holes which headphones could be plugged into. If they're there, then you've got a sound card (don't confuse them with the two sometimes found on a modem though...)

To install it if you have it, find out what type of sound card it is and download the drivers.
