I am posting this in this forum, b/c I think this is the best solution.

I have a number of vynil records (from my days as a DJ) and want to record them digitially on my PC. Any suggestions for making the physical connection?

Run a cable from your amp to the line input of your sound card and post in the pc hardware forum. They can help you with the particulars.

You need a preamp to convert the level and equalization of your turntable pickup to the level and equalization of you computer's soundcard input. You could use the preamp in a decent stereo receiver or integrated amplifier by using the tape out jacks to feed your soundcard input. If you take this option you will need a 2 male RCA to 1/8" stereo patch cord.

Another option is to get a stand alone phono preamp. Here are some links:

Most likley your turntable is equiped with a moving magnet pickup (cartrige). There are other types like moving coil (expensive) and ceramic (cheap). Entering the marking found on the pickup into Google should give you a clue as to what type it is.

Here is an excellent explanation of what I have been trying to say:
Best of luck. It can be great fun to listen to stuff you collected years ago.
