I upgraded to a new MB and CPU. After that, I upgraded to WinXP. The new MB had AC-97 "C-Media" sound onboard and I installed the correct drivers for it. I haven't been able to listen to CD's via the PC, works OK in the headphones.

Windows Media Player gives an error message about the file format. To make a long story short, when I look at the audio device drivers, I notice that they are still Sound Blaster PCI 128 (from the old system). Originally, I didn't delete all the SB drivers, because I was just going to continue to use that PCI card, but decided to try the onboard.
Now if I "Remove" the devices, and look again, they SB drivers are all back there again.
There are no Sound Blaster options in any of the "Add/Remove" hardware or software lines.
I'm thinking aobut just shutting off the onboard, re-install the SB and it's software, hoping there will then be a option to un-install it.
Any advice?

TIA,

drk

SB drivers & junk can be difficult to remove fully. As franklin says, use the device manager. If "remove" doesn't work, try the "disable in this profile" option.

Yo Bro have you tried disabling the built in sound if your planning to use your soundblaster. If not remove your soundblaster and make sure that in your CMOS the option for your built in sound card is set to enable. Also check inside your unit if the sound cable from your CDROM is attached to your motherboard.

Well, just to "complete" the process, I finally found the problem (after looking on and off for 8 months).

One of the lines in the registry was corrupted, it had mca instead of mci.
