this is a simple one but i cant seem to find any help on the topic.

i want to create a button in Flash that plays an audio file (.wav or .mp3 using the users external media player (Media Player/Real Audio/quicktime).

actually one button for each player type. the audio files will be in a seperate folder.
 
On the web, the player in which some file will be played is user defined and depends on his file type association. You can't really control that, especially if that user doesn't even have the WMplayer installed on his machine.

But you play any mp3 or wav through Flash itself. Check out this tutorial:
