audio importing is very bad

Hi everyone,
I work with Premiere 6.0. I'm trying to import audio and video from a camcorder via firewire. For the first few second , the sound is allright but after it start to jigger and kind of accelerate and it's very very bad....What can I do ?? Is there any settings that I've miss or something ? I have a 1,7 ghz , 512 ram and 60 gig hard disk. Thanks a lot to any person with an answer to my problem !

Can you import your footage using any other application, such as something that might have shipped with your camera?
