I have a homebuilt PII systerm based on a Soyho MD. I had a CD ROM installed with the audio cable attached to the Sound Card. I just installed a CD-RW but have no place to connect an audio cable. There is no connection on the MB and the Sound Card connection is already occupied. Suggestions? Do I need to have the audio on the CD-RW connected to burn CDs? Thanks!

No you do not need the sound cable connected to the CD-RW to record sound. Only to listen to sound. Does the sound card have a auxillary connector on it or just the one connector? Personnaly I would not worry about a sound connector on the RW drive, just use the normal CD-Rom for listening to music. It's not a problem...It's just a Blood Pressure Monitor

Thanks wlysyp! Unfortunately documentation that comes with hardware is not all-inclusive. Even though the instructions talked about how to setup the hardware (jumpers, etc) they did not discuss this issue. Keep em Flying!

We only use one cable in our system builds, on the DVD (if it has one) or which ever drive is used for audio playback.
Not all operating systems even need a cable! XP for one does not require one to be fitted. Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

If you need to connect both to your sound card and you are not using XP and you are going to use both drives for sound, then here is an alternative:

You don't have to have a cable to record CDs. Jim

Thanks paparazi and ANFPS26. Good to know about XP in case I EVER decide to leave 98SE. I thought there might be a splitter but had not come across one.
