Hey guys,

I've just subscribed to some Microsoft webcasts which apparently use LiveMeeting.

Turns out that they start around 4:00am in my local time zone so I'd like to view them from home is possible (I'd rather not come in to work _that_ early *grin*).

Does anyone know of a way I can view a livemeeting webcast from linux? I am using Suse 9.1 at home - would the mplayer plugin for Firefox handle that?

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks guys
wmg

mplayer can play anything Windows Media Player can play.

I'm not sure about netmeeting but gnome meeting can help you with that?

You should ask Microsoft :)

*grin* Yeah - I wondered about that!

I tried using Firefox but there is a Javascript link that just doesn't respond at the "join webcast now" stage.

Even Firefox under Win98 didn't respond to that link. I then fired up IE and that link worked. Funny thing was that the visual part of the presentation wouldn't work in IE - only the audio feed (looked like some kind of ActiveX control) so I had to copy and paste the resulting URL from the above javascript link into Firefox to get the (apparently Java-based) visual component to work.

So, even fully using MS stuff didn't work either.....go figure.

I have a couple more early morning (in my timezone anyway) webcasts coming up soon so I'll be able to give it a go again shortly....

Thanks!

It would be nice to put the burden on Microsoft to make these webcasts available on all platforms.

If they are the #1 software maker, why do they lag behind so much in most software related areas? Sun, Mozilla, Opera, and the mplayer team seem to do a pretty bang up job on cross platform compatability.

Yes - I agree. I guess their arrogance tells them that they simply don't need to. I'm constantly amazed at the level of attention they put into the Mac platform - and, apparently, the Mac version of MS Office is even better than the Windows one. Go figure.

Still, I guess, after Windows, the Mac environment would be the next biggest market for desktop use currently. While that may change in the future (swapping with linux of course), I doubt that MS will port any apps there. To be honest, would I want to run a MS linux app .... Well - no - after all - that's the whole point isn't it?
