Attempt to install HP Laserjet 1300n network printer - major problem 2

Hi

I was in the middle of installing a network printer, an HP Laserjet 1300n, which seemed to be going ok. I had connected up the printer to the network connection and was running the CD that came with the printer, but decided to exit the install half way through. The screen told me nothing on my pc had been modified and I could run the install CD at a later time. I was running the CD on my own local pc, which is connected up to the network.

However, my local pc already has a connection to a network printer which is fine. But when I went to Printer Settings I found I could no longer do a "search on entire directory" for my current network printer. Everything is fine on the other local pc's on the network so I can only assume it is due to me running the CD on my local pc that came with the HP 1300n. Is this the case? I was thinking of running the CD on the main server pc, and saving any drivers to a shared folder. However since my own local pc has been 'affected' where I cannot even do a search for my current network printer, I am very wary of doing anything that may affect the main server pc by running this CD.

When I exited the install half way through, although the screen said nothing had been modified, something obviously has been modified to make my pc be affected like this. Has something been saved to my 'Drivers' folder perhaps, from this CD, that would interfere with another network printer's files?

This is quite urgent. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Suggest using HP Network install wizard and install the printer on the system with prob. Should correct prob. If not, unistall/reboot/reinstall original printer.

Eventually insert the driver CD again and run the installation then do an uninstall afterwards.

Dear MHUK,
I have just received a brand new hp1300n.
Unfortunately I do not know how to assign an IP address to it.
Hoping that you have eventually managed to do it, I would greatly appreciate if you could make me benefit from your experience in that matter.

Start off by printing a testpage on the printer, there you should get the autoassigned IP of the printer (BootTP) if it is allready connected to your network. Next open internet explorer or another Java compatible browser and enter the IP address found on the configuration page. From the EWS (embedded Web Server)page you can change the IP address manually under Network => Configuration.

The IP on the configuration page is 0.0.0.0 and this address is not accepted on internet explorer. The devices here have fixed IP addresses (no DHCP). Any idea?

If the IP is showed as 0.0.0.0 on the configuration page you can try two different things :

1) Download and use HP`s INPW (Install Network Printer Wizard)

2) Try to do a HW address binding from the command prompt in a Win OS environment with an ARP command. The ARP command ties the hardware (MAC address) of a networkcard to a static IP. Type ARP -? for a set of commands available. Next type in something like ARP -S 192.168.0.55 00-aa-00-62-c6-09 The NIC should now have obtained an IP, but check by typing ARP -a to verify your command was successful. Next print a new configpage for a final confirmation.

Sweet, suggestion #2 is awesome. I have used Arp I don't know how many times and never realized you could assign IP's that way.

I have something to bring up in the weekly tech meeting now. Star for that one.
