I recently upgraded to Office 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP-1). Since then I cannot receive attachments that have certain extensions (.exe, .vba, etc...). I am a corporate developer, and I NEED to be able to receive attachments that have these extensions. I have looked all over for the setting to turn this off, but have been, so far, unsuccessful. Anyone know how to turn this new 'feature' off?

Thanks in advance... Thought for the day: Beware of Gods who cannot laugh...

Do you know what the System Policy Editor is? (If not, your network administrator probably does.) I think that's the only way you can re-enable these attachments. I remember reading about this on MSDN/Knowledge Base, but didn't need to keep my thumb on it.

Good luck.

Rick

I have looked in the System Policy Editor, and cannot find anything dealing with microsoft office... Thought for the day: Beware of Gods who cannot laugh...

There are a couple things you can do here.

1. have the people sending you exe's and vba's etc (bad stuff) as zip files, these are usually allowed and will probably make the download quicker.

2. talk to your exchange admin and ask them why exe etc are disabled, (virus protection).

As a network engineer/admin myself there is no way I'd allow those to be sent via my exchange servers :p
one bad virus hits and you (read: exchange admin) will be there rebuilding the server(s) and its not fun.
you can try though.. heh

I have already started people doing just that (sending as .zip files). The issue here is that people that have NOT installed Office 2000 SP-1 can receive these files with no problems. The SP-1 just changes the local user's (in this case mine) computer to not allow these files. Thought for the day: Beware of Gods who cannot laugh...

This might already be known but if you update Outlook with the security enhancements (I think it's bundled in SR-1) it will strip the attachments out (because of the "I Love You" crap) and from what I understand the best way to keep getting the attachments is to not upgrade.
Just My 2 Cents

Yes I know why this is occurring. I am looking for a way to have Outlook _NOT_ Strip the attachments out. I have already upgraded, and I would rather not go through the hassle of un-installing and reinstalling Office 2000.. Thought for the day: Beware of Gods who cannot laugh...
