I'm new to ver. 5.1. Seems like attachments open without my permission and I definetly don't want that. Good way to get a virus.
So how do I prevent that?
That seems odd, attachments definitely do not open automatically normally. The attachment file name should appear at the bottom of the message and can be opened by a single click or it can be deleted by right clicking on it and selecting delete attachment. This applies both in the preview pane and in the message itself. There is no option I can find to automatically run or open attachments. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
Thanks for the reply, Mulga.
It may have been that I was in the Preview Pane mode. A graphics appeared below my message without me clicking on anything. Since cancelling Preview, I now see the attachment filename, underlined, at the bottom of the message.
I think Outlook Express auto-opened attachments and got virus' because of using the Preview pane.
If the mail you recieved was generated in Outlook Express you will sometimes find that graphics attachments are also embedded in the body of the message. This is a "sender" setting and there is nothing you can do about it, but as far as I know it only applies to graphics so should cause no problems. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
