I have a user who started complaining last week about not being able to open attachments in Outlook 2007. It's a very interesting problem though; the attachments appear to come in fine - Outlook displays that there is an attachment and the file size. But when he goes to open it, if it's a ZIP or RAR file it tells him that the archive is either unknown or damaged, if it's a Word document he gets a blank page. When he tries to save the attachment, they all save as 0 byte files.

At first I thought this happened only to emails from the former Soviet Republics - as this is where most of hos correspondence is to - and I tried sending him attachments from my work email (internally) and from a web-based personal email account. In these two cases he was able to open/save the attachments with no problem.

Another interesting point, he forwarded several emails on to me and I was not able to open the attachments either. When, on the other hand, he sent those same emails to me as attachments; I was able to open the messages and open/save the attachments. When I tried to email them back to him (I created a new email), he was not able to open the attachments.

This user is also using AT&T's Xpress Mail; which is a program that takes the emails in Outlook and transfers them to an AT&T server which then pushes the emails to the user's PDA phone. AT&T provides a web-baser viewer for the pushed emails and the weird thing is that I was able to view/save all the attachments from the web-based AT&T viewer page that the user wasn't able to open from Outlook.

Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
