Attachments don't get recognized until save them on the desktop

Hi,
I have a few users that using Outlook 2000 on Win Xp and if they try to open an attachment, they get a msg that there is no application associated with that file(which they do)but once they save the file on their desktop, it will open fine.
Any idea how to fix this ??
