When sending an .xls file or .pdf file through outlook the
attachment ends up as a .dat file we received by the
recipient. I change the message format to plain text and
also tried rich text with no luck. MIME is also enabled.
Has anyone encouter this or know a solution? Only
happening to one users machine so I believe it is client
specific.

Outlook 2000 ver 9.0.0.2711
The security is none

Does the .DAT attachment have the name of the original file except the extension has been changed to .DAT or is the DAT file name the same on each message like winmail.dat?

Is Outlook installed as a Corporate Workgroup or as Internet Mail Only? joegz

The attachment comes through as attjqik.dat. We are running the coporate workgroup edition. Other users can send the same attachment no problem.

The person who is having a problem sending the attachment how are they selecting the addressee? Is it through a contact or an external e-mail address in a personal address book?

I realize in a previous post that you mentioned you changed the editor to plain text but is it possible that the client atill has selected the option for the addressee to "Always use RTF" in the properties for the addressee?

Article number Q259037 at support.microsoft.com may better explain what I am driving at. joegz
