Attachment causes crash

Using Lotus Notes R5 a user has reported that whenever they try to attach a document, either by the icon or from the file menu the normal window will open but as soon as they select a file or go to change directory the system closes notes. Not always but sometimes they have to restart as notes recognises that there was some problem next time it's opened.
All other aspects of windows and the software work fine. Any ideas??

What local anti-virus is installed? Also, what version of R5? 5.0.12?

The user has Notes client version 5.0.9 and we have McAfee Enterprise 7.0 with scan engine 4.3.20 installed.

I have about 8 other identical laptops that aren't having this problem. As fas as i am aware nothing has been installed or modified recently on the machine with the problem.

Hello,

The first thing I would try would be to clear the notes.ini and then re-configure the client.

- Shutdown Notes
- Navigate to the notes.ini and make a backup copy
- Edit the notes.ini and delete the text after the Notes data directory is defined
- Save the notes.ini
- Start Notes
- Configure the client from sratch

Note: If this doesn't work or have issues, shutdown Notes, rename the modified notes.ini to notes.old, and restore your copy to notes.ini. Start Notes.
