Can anyone tell me if/how I can attach a database password to the shortcut path of a database. I saw an example of including a user name but not a password. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
In Access Help, you'll find information on command line options in the topic, "Startup command-line options."
The password option is /pwd password Terry Broadbent

Yes, it can be done. NO, it is NOT a good idea. It basically defeats the security, as ANYONE who has access to your machine may directly open the db - and do as they choose within the limits of your permissions IN YOUR NAME. They can also simply look at the properties of your shortcut and get your username and password, and access the db IN YOUR NAME as often as desired. OR they could - in an idle moment just right click on the icon and e-mail it to ?????????????? . Altogether a BAD idea.

Thanks for your replies and the implications you mentioned. I agree that putting a password on a shortcut is a not a good idea, but you know how it is when users want what they want. The old adage "Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it" sometimes falls on deaf ears.
Just a thought, in some cases I have put the icon on a disk & simply used it when I needed it but never copied it to the hard drive. This may be a workable solution which can reduce, yet not eliminate the security risks.
