There seems to be a difference of opinion regarding
the ATT Custom protocol. Is it the same setting as N1-1.
Merlinman thinks they are the same...
Any other opinions on this.
Would the difference be from the type of CO the Flex ckt
is originating from???
My PRI cutover is finally going to happen in March and
I want to be exact with ATT on how the PRI Ckt is programmed,
to and from the Merlin Magix.
I don't want to experience the problems I've read about in this forum.
Thanks in Advance...

when i was an AT&T tech, was always told , AT&T custom , was nothing more than NI-1 stripped down

my opinion: and everybody has one!
for faultless implementation, insist on att custom/5 ess protocol, b8esf, zcs, common channel signaling on channel 24 , and NOT! shared signaling, in some cases, less than 5 ess central offices have been made to talk. this pbx was engineered and manufactured by a.t.& t. specifications long before there was an ni1 or ni2 set of standards.. the central office signaling is supposed to be provided by a 5 ess switch. the end to end maintenance messages between them are much better managed by both if the end points behave as originally designed. some merlins have been installed to work with another central office switch and they can be made to talk without alarms, however you will see more transient errors recorded.

tmi...merlinman is an informed source.

What ever the carrier provides, it MUST BE NI1 (Except for some new stuff from Comcast, which they say can do both).

I have had good luck with 5-ESS and DMS-100.

BUT, the Magix DOES NOT DO NI-2.
